Lauren Brincat - Child & Adolescent Psychologist

About:

Lauren is a Registered Psychologist working mainly with children & adolescents. She graduated from the University of Sydney in 2009 with honours in psychology and a specialisation in school counselling. In 2019, she completed a Master of Suicidology (with Distinction) through Griffith University + Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention.

As a Lead and Senior Psychologist, with over 14 years of experience within the NSW Education school counselling service, Lauren has strong skills in the areas of psychological and educational assessment and intervention, working collaboratively with families to provide targeted interventions for children and adolescents with a variety of needs including specific learning disorders, anxiety, depression, developmental disabilities and neurodiverse presentations. She also has extensive experience working with academically and intellectually gifted children. In private practice, Lauren has supported adult and adolescent clients in managing relationships, sleep disorders and other life challenges affecting wellbeing.

Lauren utilises elements of Cognitive Behavioural & Schema Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy with her clients to work towards positive change. Her compassionate child-centred approach assists to develop trust and rapport with younger clients while assisting parents to support their child’s emotional wellbeing through tailored evidence-based parenting education. Other areas of interest include suicidal ideation, childhood depression, self-harm, emotional regulation, and working within an neurodiversity affirming paradigm. Lauren is a member of the APS Disaster Response Network; having recent experience supporting young people strategically on the North Coast throughout the 2022 Flood event.

Lauren is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia – Australian Health Practioner Regulation Agency (PSY0001733547) and is an accredited Board Approved Supervisor of Provisional Psychologists.

Lauren is President of the School Counselling and Psychology Association NSW, and a member of the Australian Psychological Society Australian Association of Psychologists Inc and Australian Association for Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy . She is a Medicare registered provider (Provider No. 5375851X).

Lauren is also an accredited teacher with the NSW Education Standards Authority and a parent of two energetic boys. She is a NSW Justice of the Peace and a member the NSW Justices Asssociation Inc.

Lauren Brincat currently provides psychological assessment services by appointment only for children, adolescents & adults.

Assessments include:

  • Gifted and talented testing

  • Diagnosis of specific learning disorders (aka dyslexia), intellectual disabilities, attention disorders, mood/anxiety disorders and memory deficits

  • Determining academic strengths and weaknesses

  • Cognitive assessments for funding, school access, HSC special provisions and NDIS eligibility purposes
